The future of the Smallwood and Caribou

I have wondered since May where these two vessels will end up in the immediate future.  There has been numerous rumors that they would both end up here in South western Nova Scotia:  The Smallwood would run from Yarmouth to Portland, while the Caribou would replace the Princess of Acadia between Saint John and Digby.  Now, to accomodate such vessel,  a lot of modifications have to be done to both the ships and shore equipment, very costly investments in themselves.  There was also rumors Stena Lines would buy them to be used in Europe.  The only sure thing is that Marine Atlantic is looking for a port in Europe or the Mediterranean to berth both of the ships, pending sale.  I don't know if they've ever found a port.  Personally, I think if they were to go to a port overseas, it might be in Greece until they are sold.  The vessels do not currently meet SOLAS 90, so, they should most likely be flagged outside of Canada, like Nassau, Bahamas or any other more flexible registry port in order to be passenger ferries again, unless they are able to meet the SOLAS 90 requirements with future owners.
