Now, this is only my opinion on what could potentially happen when (or if) ferry service out of Yarmouth would be restored. Now, with the focus on a conventional ferry operating between Yarmouth and New England, it makes me wonder if the service were to go year round with a more stable and faster ship than the Scotia Prince, if the Digby-Saint John ferry would be negatively affected as the ship carries the bulk of the shipments to the New England markets as well as Upper Canada, but most of the trucks on board go to Boston. A newer ship out of Yarmouth could cut a bit more time than if you were to take the ferry in Digby. On the other hand, the sea conditions between Yarmouth , Portland, Bar Harbor and Boston are more hazardous in winter than in the Bay of Fundy, cancelling more scheduled sailings than the Princess of Acadia, which rarely has a weather cancellation in winter. This was also found in a recent study done 2 years ago as the town of Yarmouth was starting to plan a service for commercial trucks as well as regular passenger traffic which never materialized. Another key note that saves the Digby Saint John ferry would be the planned service out of Yarmouth would most likely be seasonal and would be like an overnight cruise ferry. We've done it before with the Bluenose and Scotia Prince in Yarmouth and the Princess of Acadia in Digby, however, traffic is less booming now than when Marine Atlantic and Prince of Fundy Cruises ran them back in the day.
