There was some negativity regarding MV Highlanders this week after the ship had to be pulled out of service due to a generator problem. As I see it, all ships do have it's own issues whether they are twins or not. Death, taxes, breakdowns and fleet renewal are very true facts of life. I had experienced the Highlanders earlier this month (link to my experience) and even with a few glitches, had a positive experience when it comes to customer service, comfortable seating and food quality on board. As MV Highlanders is sidelined for now, her sister ship MV Blue Puttees has had no major issues whatsoever this year. The only incident she had so far was in her first weeks of service last year when her stabilizer fins retracted. The cause was human error. Low fluid in the header tank reservoir which should have been topped up before departure. For the summer of 2011, there was no mechanical issues with MV Blue Puttees or MV Highlanders and it was quiet all summer. Unlike in 2010 when MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood had mechanical problems 3-4 times that summer as well as one minor problem on MV Caribou and flushing out a system on MV Atlantic Vision. This breakdown which is going on now couldn't have happened at a worse time this year: it's one of the most busiest weeks of the year for tourism and a lot of displaced passengers. However, as I said, breakdowns happen, it's a fact of life.
