A tall ship was lost last weekend during hurricane Sandy. The 180 foot HMS Bounty was lost off Cape Hatteras, N.C. after losing power to the pumps while taking on water. Of the 16 crew on board, 14 were rescued, 1 died and the Captain is still missing. The loss of of this tall ship is a reminder that the sea can claim any ship it wants and all seafarers know about the risk that either the ship and/or him/her self may not return from a trip on the ocean.
HMS BOUNTY HISTORY
built in Lunenburg, N.S. in 1960 for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty
made many T.V. and movie appearances since (most notably on Pirates of the Caribbean)
Last refit was in Boothbay Harbor, Maine a few months before her loss
Initial voyage was from New London, CT to St. Petersburg, FL
