It's been almost three years since the Province of Nova Scotia has refused to lend a subsidy for the International ferry connecting Yarmouth to Bar Harbor (and Portland) Maine. I feel even though the wrong boat was used to provide the service, I feel the Provincial Government should have supported the service with a request for proposal (RFP) to charter (or purchase) a more efficient mono hull ferry and market it as a cruise ferry to either Bar Harbor or Portland. The town of Yarmouth is noticeably less busy now than a few years ago, could no ferry be a direct cause? More than likely. In recent years, Yarmouth is facing a slow and agonizing death each year with no ferry and jobs are being affected by this poorly thought out decision in 2009. Now, people are moving away out west at an alarming rate. Although it might not by choice, but because of more work there than here. There might not be anything going on about resuming the ferry service anytime soon, but I'm open and supportive of any type of service to New England in the future. It would be the big kick start the town of Yarmouth would need.
