Princess of Acadia aground in Digby Gut

 While approaching the Digby ferry terminal on Thursday (November 7) at around noon, one of the generators on MV Princess of Acadia had failed knocking out the power and her ability to steer.  She then drifted and touched the rocky beach just yards from the terminal.  Fortunately, divers have found no damage to her propulsion system or the hull below the waterline.  At around 2:20 that day, the vessel was able to dock on her own power and has not moved from her berth since as Bay Ferries does a thorough check of all systems so that this problem would not arise in the future.  It does beg the question if more mechanical problems will happen in the future and when a suitable replacement would eventually be found, hopefully sooner than later.  If all goes well, the vessel will be sailing Sunday at 4:00 P.M. (16:00 hrs) and hopefully be able to get the Christmas tree for Boston on Wednesday afternoon as planned.
