The top story of 2015

A Princess retires

 In my last post related to the Princess of Acadia, I said it was to be my last.  I lied!  The now former Digby-Saint John ferry happens to be my top featured story for 2015.  The vessel served us well for 4 (and almost half) decades and has set the bar high for her replacement.

 As I was taking this photo on June 7, 2015, there was an emergency unfolding in the Bay of Fundy and the Princess of Acadia was the closest ship to the scene.  The ferry brought a seriously injured crew member from the fishing vessel Compass Rose II to Saint John where an ambulance was waiting at the ferry terminal.

 On July 27, 2015, the Princess of Acadia was retired from active service and sailed to the Diamond Jubilee Cruise Terminal in Saint John for a send off and celebration of her service.  On July 30, she moved to pier 3 on Saint John's west side docks (as pictured in this photo from August 29, 2015) and her Bay Ferries markings were removed.  On September 10, 2015, she left Saint John and the Bay of Fundy behind for good and that's where I will end it.  This blog will always remember MV Princess of Acadia as the ferry that once linked Saint John and Digby proudly, safely and reliably for 44 years.  She had served us well and now a part of our history.  (1971-2015)

On July 28, 2015, MV Fundy Rose (formerly MV Blue Star Ithaki) started her runs between Saint John and Digby and continues the tradition of safe, reliable ferry service the Princess left off.
